COMING TO MALABAR... MALABAR TEEN COUNCIL

Malabar Teen Council

Purpose: This program provides the opportunity for teenage students to learn first hand how a local government operates by participating in simulated town council meetings.

Operation: A teen council meeting requires five students and at least one parent of each student. The students will be supplied with information on meeting agenda items in advance. They will be expected to be familiar with the issues prior to the council meeting so they can participate in an intelligent debate. Parents who will be attending the meeting should also understand the issues so they can come to the podium as citizens and give their opinion to the council. The Mayor of Malabar will run the meeting according to Robert’s Rules of Order.

Schedule: Once a month, on the third Tuesday, from January through May 2009 for a total of five meetings. (Some schedule flexibility is available to accommodate participants)

Location: Malabar Town Hall. 2725 Malabar Road.

Time: 7:00 P.M.
