Prescribed Fire Planned for Malabar Scrub Sanctuary on January 14th
Malabar, Fla. – A 25-acre prescribed fire within the Malabar Scrub Sanctuary is planned from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14th by Brevard County’s Environmentally Endangered Lands Program with assistance from the Florida Forest Service.
The Malabar Scrub Sanctuary is located off Malabar Road in Malabar.
Prescribed fires involve the careful application of fire by professionals under specific weather and fuel conditions to achieve environmental resource management goals. Benefits include the reduction of wildfire risk, habitat restoration and the recycling of nutrients back into the soil.
