August 22nd Prescribed Burn

The Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Land Program has provided the Town the following Prescribed Burn Notice:

"A 65-acre prescribed fire within the Malabar Scrub Sanctuary is planned from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22nd by Brevard County’s Environmentally Endangered Lands Program with assistance from the Brevard County Fire Rescue Department.

The Malabar Scrub Sanctuary is located at 1501 Malabar Woods Boulevard in Malabar. The burn will be conducted on the east parcel of the Sanctuary, some temporary trail closures will be necessary and public access to the site may be restricted during fire operations.

Prescribed fires involve the careful application of fire by professionals under specific weather and fuel conditions to achieve environmental resource management goals. Benefits include the reduction of wildfire risk, habitat restoration and the recycling of nutrients back into the soil."
